Mustapha Benboulaid was born in February 1917 in Arris, wilaya of Batna, in a conservative environment.
He started his education in Arris primary school then in Batna where he joined the school of the AOMA (Association des Oulemas Musulmans Algeriens).

He left Algeria to France when he was 20 and was already concerned by the situation of the Algerian workers there. He thus founded a union to defend their rights.

In 1939, he did the compulsory military service in the Algerian 11th Regiment Riflemen, reaching the rank of Corporal. He then was mobilized during WWII. He did a great job and was awarded "La Croix de Guerre" for his courage and reached the rank of Adjutant.
After the war, he operated a bus company and led a group (an association) of local traders.

Benboulaid joined the PPA (Algerian People's Party) in 1946 and was elected in 1948 in the Algerian Assembly. But the French authorities cancelled the results and started monitoring him very closely.
He joined the MTLD (Movement for the Triumph of Democratic Liberties) after the PPA was banned and started, with the other nationalists, the preparation of an action against colonialism.
He was an active member of the OS (Special organization) since its creation and provided political and military trainings to its members in the Aures. He even used his own moneys to buy the arms from Libyan merchants.

On June 1954 he and his comrades created the CRUA (Revolutionary Committee for Unity and Action) and he was the responsible for the Aures area (Wilaya I). He even was a member of the committee of the six (comite des six).
He commanded the military attacks in the Aures in the night from 31 october to 1 november 1954, which announced the beginning of the Algerian war of indepedence.

During the Algerian revolution, he supervised the distribution of the weapons. He went to Libya in 1955 to purchase more arms but was arrested on February 11th. The military court condemned him to a death sentence; but he could escape with Tahar Zbiri in November 1955 and resumed his wilaya I command. He took part in many battles like Ifri elblah and ahmar khaddou.

On the 22nd of March 1956, he was killed by a booby-trapped field radio, parachuted by French troops.

The more I learn about our martyrs and how brave they were, the more I despise what we became.

Ya Fatony they used money for the sake of Aljazair. Now our businessmen use Algeria for their own benefits.
What a difference man!

Ahmed Rachedi started shooting a movie about his life. Last news I read was that the actor who plays Ben Boulaid, Hacene Kechache, broke his leg in one of the scenes and is unable to continue; so Rachedi was looking for another actor. Don't know when the movie will be on.
