Bravery, thy name is a rooster

When it crows, you’d think it’s an archaic bell,
Whose sound is growing more, and never less.
A perfectly-shaped rooster with a white feathery-shell;
And a red helmet and other things, I must confess,
That my neighbours despised and used to repel

Because of its ceremonial habits, there was a mess;
The cock was so viciously beaten that it almost fell.
Yet, it stood still, and bravery it managed to express.
Neighbours, finally, settled on putting it in an outcast cell.

What a contemptible feeling I now repress
For not having enjoyed the fresh morning smell.
There it was, still standing and was anything but powerless,
As if it was telling them :” you can go to h*ll…”

What can my enemies possibly do to me? My paradise is in my heart; wherever I go it goes with me, inseparable from me. For me, prison is a place of (religious) retreat; execution is my opportunity for martyrdom; and exile from my town is but a chance to travel ......
