I don't get it, why were they evicted? What happened exactly?

Because apparently the building was found to be the "property" of the French government or something along those lines. The women worked for the French embassy i believe and go evicted because they were no longer employed by the embassy.

That's what I know.. I could be wrong

Algeria is one of the few countries in the world that doesn't sell to embassies and instead only rents, so am not sure how did that happen. They could be working for a company maybe, one of my students is living in an apartment his father got when he was working for a French company 53 years ago, so am guessing it was a company not an embassy perhaps. Allahu A3llam.
